Density of An Egg

Below is a science experiment on the density of an egg. In this science experiment, we are going to explore the density of a raw egg in water and salt water. The video below illustrates this density of an egg experiment. This is a very simple density and eggs science experiment.

What you need for this density of an egg experiment

This density of an egg experiment is very simple and all you need is a cup of water, a cup of salt water and a raw egg.

Result of this density of a raw egg experiment

As you can see in this science experiment video, the raw egg floats in salt water but sinks in regular tap water. So, why did a raw egg float in salt water but sink in water?

By adding salt to water, you are increasing the density of water. Salt water is more dense than water and also more dense then the content of the egg, so the raw egg floats in salt water. But, the egg is more dense than water or water is less dense than egg, so the raw egg sinks to the bottom of the cup in water.
